It’s been a matter of days since the second season of Nobody Wants This landed on Netflix, and we’re obsessed (and wondering when season three could drop…)
Season one introduced us to influencer Joanne, played by Kristen Bell, who falls in love with a rabbi Noah (Adam Brody) – despite the complications in their relationship. Season two continues this love story, but also allows another couple’s story to take the spotlight – that of Noah’s sister in law Esther and her husband Sasha, as they begin to question the foundations of their marriage.
In fact, many viewers of the show are praising the way Esther’s character develops over the course of season two. Plus, pretty much all of us can relate to getting ‘crisis bangs’ at one point in our lives – right?

Who is Jackie Tohn?
Jackie Tohn is an actress and musician who plays Esther in season two of Nobody Wants This. She was raised in New York, and always knew she wanted to be an actress. Her mum, a teacher, quit her job to take Jackie to acting lessons. She made her debut on screens when she was 10, as an extra on the PBS children’s series Ghostwriter. Her first credited role was in the sitcom The Nanny.
Tohn attended the University of Delaware with the ambition of becoming a teacher, but found herself auditioning for roles in Los Angeles during one summer break. She landed parts in Veronica Mars and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. However, her big break came when she was on American Idol in 2009, where she made it through to the Hollywood rounds.

Jackie Tohn plays Esther Roklov in Nobody Wants This, Noah’s controlling sister in law who is married to Sasha. In season two, we see Esther’s role really begin to shine. Speaking to InStyle about her character, Tohn said: ‘Right when they got back in the writers’ room, someone called me and they were like, ‘Esther is going through it in season two,’ adding ‘She needs bangs.’

She spoke about landing the role of Esther in Nobody Wants This to InStyle: ‘When I was younger, and I was a stand-up comic, and I always had to go out of my way to make sure people knew that I had like, value,’ she said. ‘But being on a show of this magnitude has made me feel accepted and validated and enveloped in a way that’s made me not have to try so fucking hard, right?’
