Mamardashvili’s ‘unreal shot-stopping’ seals 1st clean sheet: “Alisson would’ve been proud”

Giorgi Mamardashvili helped Liverpool return to winning ways as he kept a first clean sheet for the club during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
The 25-year-old, who moved to Anfield from Valencia in July, has been between the sticks for the Reds since Alisson suffered a hamstring injury in the 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray.
However as the Premier League champions slumped to defeats at the hands of Brentford, Man United, Chelsea and Crystal Palace, Mamardashvili – who also conceded in the 5-1 triumph against Frankfurt – struggled to earn a first clean sheet.
But that all changed on Saturday night as the Georgian produced a string of impressive saves – particularly to deny Matty Cash in the first half – to help Liverpool end a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats.
As a result, supporters were quick to praise Mamardashvili for a special landmark early in his Anfield career.
Shoutout to Gio Mamardashvili, absolute brick wall with an absolute worldie of a save ?

Also solid game by Mamardashvili. His best game in a Liverpool shirt

This save was ridiculous by Mamardashvili btw, he’s a top keeper, once he gets distribution down and works on playing from the back more comfortably I’ll #feelsosafe

“A big tap on the back for the goalkeeper. He’s doing a cracking job as Alisson‘s deputy.”
– Terry Winrow on Facebook
Gravenberch my MOTM today, can’t say a bad word about anyone though, and fair play to Mamardashvili he has been spot on since replacing Alisson, especially as he has adapted to us, he’s a shot stopper meanwhile Alisson is a ball playing goalkeeper and out his box more

???Mamardashvili with his first Liverpool clean sheet.?
3 Saves for him on the night, helping his side secure a win in the Premier League after 3 straight losses.?
Good way to bounce back after some shaky performances as well! pic.twitter.com/x6AWvW8XcD

Deserved ShoutOut to #Mamardashvili, put in a solid performance. Was there when it mattered. Some solid saves. Made better decisions when releasing the ball. But also our players finally took up better positions in which to receive. #LFC

Credit to Mamardashvili. Couple of very important saves in that 1st half. It’s not just the win, it’s the clean sheet too. Onto Madrid Tuesday. #LFC

After a difficult start to life in a Liverpool shirt, a first clean sheet has come at the perfect time for Mamardashvili as the Reds look ahead to games against Real Madrid and Man City in the next seven days.
At this stage, it also remains unclear when exactly Arne Slot expects to have Alisson back and available for selection.
But if Mamardashvili continues to perform in the manner he did on Saturday night, Liverpool will not need to rush their No. 1 back into action.
