2025 World Gymnastics Championships: Angelina Melnikova claims second world all-around crown

Final rotation chaos: Nemour falls away, Wong surges, Melnikova clinches

As the top group of women moved to the balance beam, Melnikova was first to go in the rotation. After starting strong with a switch leap mount directly connected into a switch leap, she ran out of beam, walking backwards out of her round-off, two-foot layout acrobatic series and fell, incurring a full 1.000 deduction. She scored just 12.800.

“I have an issue with beam. I think it’s more of a psychological one,” she admitted afterwards. “I fell off doing the same element during a couple of competitions. I am planning to change my program because this is just being stuck in my head and I need a change.”

The error opened the door for Nemour, who sat in the second by just over a tenth-and-a-half at the halfway point.

But she couldn’t take advantage, coming to grief on her double wolf turn. Her score was 13.066. Later, Nemour went on to falter again on the floor exercise, dropping her out of the medals.

In the final rotation, Wong, who had been having a solid day through three events, surged from fourth place, scoring a 14.466, the top mark on the event of the night. She was the provisional leader until Melnikova took to the floor, needing better than 13.366 for the title.

After a long wait, the score – a 13.466 – flashed, confirming her second world title win.
