Diplo really sent everyone watching the Smart Girl Dumb Questions podcast into a shock when he “revealed” that he had previously dated Justin Trudeau. This raised questions about the former Canadian Prime Minister’s sexuality as people began wondering if the man currently with Katy Perry is bisexual. Let’s take a look at Diplo’s claims.
During his recent appearance on Nayeema Raza’s SGDQ podcast, the music producer/DJ talked about dating Perry in the past, only to add, “Oh, I did date Trudeau, too. That was a weird one, though. I’m just not into politicians.” Needless to say, viewers were confused.

Of course, there are no valid claims regarding Trudeau’s sexuality being anything other than straight. In fact, it may not be obvious, but Diplo was only joking during the interview.
A fan commented asking, “Did Diplo really date with Trudeau!“, and the host was quick to put the fire out by replying, “lol!! No that part was a joke…” Well, there you go.
On the other hand, it’s true that Diplo dated Perry in the past, no matter how short-lived their relationship may have been. As per Elle, the two were linked together in April 2014 after getting spotted at Coachella together. Later in 2017, she ranked him the third best when it comes to her celebrity lovers’ performance in bed.

As per PEOPLE, Trudeau and Grégoire met when they were kids, as she was a classmate of his youngest brother, Michel. Of course, they didn’t date at the time. Later, when they reconnected as adults, Grégoire took her shot by emailing the man, only for him to ghost her before ghosting was a thing.
He recalled, “I got the email, and I said, ‘Nice. Okay. Good.’ I didn’t answer it…I just decided, ‘No, I’m better off not starting anything that I’m not willing to go through with.”
But as fate would have it, the two bumped into each other weeks later and, in a very rom-com way, Grégoire refused to give him her number when he finally came to his senses. Instead, she asked him to email her. After dating for a bit, Trudeau and Grégoire tied the knot in 2005.
They went on to have three children together, Xavier James, Hadrien Grégoire, and Ella-Grace. Grégoire stood by Trudeau through it all. She was there when he was first elected as Canada’s Prime Minister in 2015 and then again in 2021. On August 02, 2023, they announced their separation after almost two decades of marriage.

2025 was surprising in more ways than one, especially when two completely different worlds collided and resulted in a couple we never thought would be a thing. Romance rumors between Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry began circulating in July.

Perry is currently on her The Lifetimes Tour, and she is reportedly very “flattered” by the fact that her man is making sure to spend time with her. A source told PEOPLE, “She’s focused on her tour and Justin has made a real effort to meet her where she is – literally. She’s flattered.“
The source added that after her split from Orlando Bloom, Perry “didn’t expect to fall for somebody so soon.” However, it looks like “Justin checks all the boxes” for her. He “has a great sense of humor, he’s charming and treats her with respect.“
Another source told the outlet that their relationship is “fairly serious and definitely moving in that direction.” They added, “They are very much a couple and have been seeing each other as often as possible.”
While neither Trudeau nor Perry has officially made any comments about their romance, his Halloween costume seems like a deliberate move towards confirming their relationship.
Taking to Instagram, Trudeau uploaded a photo of himself dressed in a shark costume as his son, Hadrien, stands beside him.
While it may seem like an innocent father-son moment, you may remember Perry’s 2015 Super Bowl halftime performance, where she danced with two “sharks” in a similar costume.

It looks like Trudeau dressed up as the “left shark” for Halloween. He wrote, “Ready for Halloween with Hadrien: he’s the surfer, I’m the shark (to his left)…”
Specially pointing out that he’s the shark on the left, while there are no other sharks in the photo, has left us convinced that this was an ode to Perry’s iconic performance!
