Arsenal have beaten Athletic Bilbao, Olympiakos and Atletico Madrid without conceding in this season’s Champions League and the Gunners’ firm foundations can help ensure they enjoy another positive evening when they head to Slavia Prague on Tuesday.

Slavia began the league phase with a 2-2 against Bodo/Glimt before losing 3-0 at Inter.

Last month’s 0-0 at Atalanta shows they can compete, but the Gunners haven’t conceded a goal in seven games and another controlled victory looks likely in the Czech capital.

Slavia Prague vs Arsenal preview

The early stages of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal reign were characterised by excitement, but control is now the Gunners’ preference and a precise performance can be expected from the Premier League leaders at Slavia Prague on Tuesday.

It was another routine afternoon for Arteta’s men on Saturday as they cruised past Burnley 2-0 thanks to headed goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice.

A first major trophy since 2020 seems inevitable for the Gunners, who are six points clear at the top of the Premier League and through to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

However, it was in the Champions League that they came closest last season, losing in the semi-finals to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.

A 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid on matchday three has followed 2-0 successes over Athletic Bilbao and Olympiakos in this season’s competition, and Arteta is clearly in no mood to settle for second-best again.

Arsenal have won their last seven games without conceding and they will be confident of maintaining their ruthless streak against a Slavia side who have lost 3-0 to Inter and held Atalanta to goalless draw since a 2-2 stalemate with Bodo/Glimt on matchday one.

It isn’t as if they didn’t have their chances in Bergamo. Slavia recorded 14 attempts on goal in northern Italy but struggled to fashion any chances of real note.

The Czech side are unbeaten in their last six in all competitions since losing at Inter, most recently outlasting Ostrava 2-0 on Saturday, but they have not scored in four previous meetings with Arsenal and the Gunners’ defensive fortitude suggests that won’t change on Tuesday evening.

Arteta is believed to be plotting changes but, unlike at the start of the Spaniard’s reign, his squad is strong enough to cope with any rotation.

Bukayo Saka scored Arsenal’s third goal when they beat Slavia 4-0 in in the Europa League in April 2021 and can get on the scoresheet again in Prague.

The 24-year-old is reportedly close to agreeing a record-breaking new contract with his boyhood club and a fifth goal of the season could prove excellent timing.

Two the magic number for Arsenal?

Saturday’s 2-0 win at Burnley was the sixth time this season that the Gunners have won by that scoreline.

Two of the half-dozen have come in the Champions League, against Bilbao and Olympiakos, and backing a 2-0 away win is an enticing proposition considering how the Gunners have controlled their recent games.
