EastEnders fans are calling on the writers to ‘step up’ after Sharon Watts shockingly left Albert Square for the second time this year.

Sharon returned to Walford last month, having been gone for several months following the death of her close friend Martin Fowler in the BBC soap’s 40th anniversary episodes.

On top of this, Sharon’s affair with her ex Grant Mitchell led to her relationship with Teddy Mitchell coming to an end the same week.

The fan favourite character, who has been played by Letitia Dean on the soap since its debut year in 1985, was stunned to see Zoe Slater back in Walford when she returned.

Having spent several months in Australia, Sharon’s world came crumbling down when Zoe claimed that her late husband Dennis Rickman is the father of her kids.

Despite being furious that Dennis would have cheated on her, Sharon agreed to help finance private investigators for Zoe to help find her son.

On Monday (October 27) Zoe’s revelation that Dennis wasn’t actually her kids’ dad played on her mum Kat’s mind as they prepared for quiz night at The Vic.

While this was happening Vicki Fowler talked to Ian Beale about Zoe’s son and seeing how much it meant to Sharon, Ian transferred her some money to help.

At the quiz night, Kat accidentally let slip in The Vic that Zoe was lying about Dennis, leaving Vicki furious as Sharon was desperate to connect with Dennis’ child.

In scenes aired on Tuesday night (October 28), Vicki was stunned by the reveal, determined to make sure her sister Sharon learned the truth.

Just moments into the episode, Vicki called Sharon, who was not seen, before informing Zack Hudson that she is leaving Walford for Florida to stay with Michelle Fowler

“She won’t come back. I seriously think this has tipped her over the edge. She is in bits. It is like Denny has died all over again,” Vicki said.

Despite Vicki telling Zoe, who was told by Kat she’d have to move out if she doesn’t redeem herself, that she’ll get her revenge, most fans were left devastated by Sharon leaving again.

Rushing to X, previously known as Twitter, after seeing the episode, fans shared their frustrations that Sharon was gone again just a month after her return.

@FishyJean said: “Sharon being so upset about a kid she only thought she knew 5 minutes ago (who was her dead sons step brother) that she’s got to go to America and leave her LIVING son behind….. Can the writers step up and make the story lines make sense…. Perlease!!!!!!!” EastEnders@tiffraymonds added: “Sharon’s not coming back #EastEnders.”

@mattFarris wrote: “Sharon’s upset that Dennis isn’t the father of Zoe’s alleged twins, so she’s off to Florida instead of coming back to tear strips off Zoe? #EastEnders.” @Sarah2022x stated: “So Sharon goes away for 3 months comes back for a week and goes again…. #EastEnders @BBCiPlayer.”

@biuemudryk commented: “is there a reason why sharon is constantly off screen?? #eastenders.” @maryandfrens posted: “They need to figure out a way to write Sharon out properly because these on and off appearances of hers just makes the storylines hard to believe #Eastenders
