In the most recent instalment of Married at First Sight UK, E4 audiences witnessed drama erupt during the countryside retreat’s dinner party.

Earlier on in the series, Maeve found herself alone after her husband Joe departed to be with his family following his grandfather’s tragic death.

Despite the pair appearing solid previously – even exchanging declarations of love – Joe privately revealed doubts about his feelings for his wife during a chat with Ashley.

Whilst Maeve told the group she’d had no contact from her husband and questioned whether he’d be back, Joe made a surprise return on Sunday evening.

Entering their retreat accommodation, Joe admitted to cameras he felt anxious as their marriage hung in the balance, reports OK!.

Though he claimed to want to continue their relationship, this proved untrue when they reunited. Maeve was clearly unimpressed by his casual approach to their reunion, revealing she was aware of his conversation with Ashley.

When Joe attempted to discuss recent events, Maeve refused to listen, prompting his explosive response: “It’s just not going to work it it? Yeah, this ain’t going to get resolved so let’s just call it a day. I don’t give a f**k, I actually don’t, I don’t care. F**k this.”

Later on in the evening, Maeve arrived at the dinner party on her own and immediately burst into tears, revealing to the group that Joe had come back but had called time on their marriage. With Bailey choosing to go and have a word with Joe to get his perspective, it became obvious he was finished with the experiment.

He confided in his mate: “It’s not working, I came here with positive intentions, to potentially carry it on. It didn’t go how I thought it was going to go, that’s that.”

When pressed about whether the marriage was over, he confirmed: “Of course”. As he made his way back to the vehicle, Joe told producers the marriage was completely finished, stating, “It’s done.”

But Maeve and Joe weren’t the only couple whose relationship crumbled during the dinner party. Throughout recent episodes, Julia-Ruth and Divarni’s romance has been on the rocks following the revelation that they had been intimate despite her insisting she wasn’t attracted to him.

During the evening, the duo attempted to have a discussion, though it rapidly turned into a heated row. Choosing to raise a glass to the group, she declared: “In all honesty, this has been fun, this has been iconic, this has been amazing, made some great friendships.

“I’ve made an amazing ex-husband, Divarni and I are gone now so good luck, may the odds be ever in your favour, keep it real, it is a game. Have fun, cheers to the chaos here, here.”

It was evident that the group were not pleased with her remarks, leading to a heated argument in which Bailey labelled her ‘evil’.

Despite their confirmation of the marriage’s end, a sneak peek revealed the pair sitting together on the sofa during the upcoming commitment ceremony.

MAFS UK airs Sunday to Wednesday on E4 at 9pm.
