The BBC marks remembrance week 2025

Commemorative programming across BBC TV, Radio and iPlayer…

The BBC will once again unite the nation in reflection and remembrance this November, with a week of special programming to mark Remembrance Week 2025 across television, radio and digital platforms.

Coverage includes the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall and The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph — both attended by Senior Members of the Royal Family — alongside a range of powerful commemorative content for audiences of all ages.

“It is always an honour for the BBC to help the country remember the courage of all who served in the armed forces and those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” says Tim Davie, BBC Director-General.

“During this remembrance period, we will pay tribute to their legacy through dedicated programming and poignant storytelling for audiences right across the UK.”

Accessible coverage will include audio described and British Sign Language versions on BBC iPlayer and Red Button, with commentary-free broadcasts also available from the Cenotaph.

The highlights air on BBC One starting with, from the Royal Albert Hall, the nation gathers to honour the courage and sacrifice of the Armed Forces in this moving annual event. Hosted this year by Hannah Waddingham, the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance 2025 features a stellar line-up of performers including Sir Rod Stewart, Blessing Offor, Sam Ryder, Keala Settle and The Wellermen.

Military music will take centre stage, with powerful performances from The Central Band of the RAF, The RAF Squadronaires, The King’s Colour Squadron, and The Band of HM Royal Marines.

This year’s Festival marks two historic anniversaries: 80 years since the end of the Second World War, and 25 years since the lifting of the ban on gay, lesbian and bisexual personnel serving openly in the UK Armed Forces.

Personal stories will spotlight those who fought and those who continue to serve, as well as the resilience of military families — particularly children who have faced loss. As the traditional poppies fall and silence descends, the Royal Family, veterans and the nation will join in remembrance.

On Remembrance Sunday, the BBC will provide live coverage from Whitehall as Members of the Royal Family lead the nation in commemorating all those who have died in service.

Sophie Raworth and Petroc Trelawny present from London as Senior Royals, political leaders, and representatives of the Armed Forces, Commonwealth nations and faith communities observe the traditional two-minute silence at 11am, followed by the National Service of Remembrance.

The ceremony continues with the laying of wreaths and the historic veterans’ march past, with almost 10,000 veterans taking part — organised by the Royal British Legion. Across the country, veterans and their families will share their own reflections on courage, loss and resilience, reminding audiences why this act of remembrance endures.

After more than 25 years as the voice of Remembrance Sunday, David Dimbleby steps down from commentary duties this year. “It has been an honour and a privilege to be part of this annual ceremony commemorating our veterans and their sacrifice,” he says.
