Why Joe Mixon hasn’t played in 2025 for the Houston Texans with mysterious injury

The Houston Texans continue to have a solid backfield with Woody Marks and Nick Chubb.

But they were supposed to have Joe Mixon.

It’s Week 7, though, and Mixon remains out. He hasn’t played yet in 2025.

It’s all a bit of a mystery.

Why isn’t Joe Mixon playing?

Mixon sustained a non-football injury during the offseason, involving his ankle, one that hasn’t been clarified further than that.

Mixon was put on the non-football injury list, which kept him out through Week 4, at minimum. But it has already been longer.

Is Joe Mixon coming back this season?

Nothing about this seems promising for Mixon.

The lack of updates make it seem like he might not be coming back.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans has spoken about Mixon in the past tense, saying, “We’re rolling with the guys that are here. That’s the main thing. We miss Joe, miss his energy, and his enthusiasm and everything he brought to our team. We continue to press forward and hope he’s doing well.”

Until there’s a positive update, it’s safe to assume Mixon isn’t coming back anytime soon.
