Tom Golisano announces formation of 10-hospital network across eastern U.S.

Brighton, N.Y. — Tom Golisano announced Tuesday the formation of the Golisano Children’s Alliance, a group of 10 hospitals across the eastern U.S. that have received substantial funding from the billionaire philanthropist and will be able to “more easily share resources and expand access to crucial pediatric care.”

Three hospitals already bear the 84-year-old Paychex founder’s name: Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester, Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse and Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. A fourth, Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, will be renamed Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo as of Jan. 1.

Six more hospitals, listed below, will receive a total of $253 million from Golisano and join the alliance.

  • Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Hartford, Conn. ($50 million)
  • Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, Hershey, Pa. ($50 million)
  • University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Lexington, Ky. ($50 million)
  • University of Maryland Children’s Hospital, Baltimore ($50 million)
  • University of Vermont Children’s Hospital, Burlington, Vt. ($25 million)
  • WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia ($28 million)

The alliance “aims to elevate pediatric care by expanding services, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring that children and families have access to the highest quality medical attention close to home,” according to the Golisano Foundation. Details on renaming the six added hospitals is expected in the coming months.

“I’ve been, over the years, fortunate enough to support many special organizations in our community and other communities, but few things have brought me as much pride, as much fulfillment as investing in children,” Golisano said. “These hospitals represented here today represent hope, places where skilled, compassionate people change lives every day.”
