Red Sox Named Among Top Landing Spots For Japanese Slugger

The Boston Red Sox have done a tremendous job at stockpiling young talent.

Roman Anthony is the future of the franchise. Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell have extremely high ceilings and can each fill multiple defensive roles. Peyton Tolle and Connelly Early have showcased incredible stuff and each project as middle-of-the-rotation arms.

It’s hard to ignore that one spot, though…

Rafael Devers’ shocking trade to the San Francisco Giants, Triston Casas’ never-ending battle with the injury bug and Alex Bregman’s decision to re-enter free agency have all contributed to the massive hole sitting in the middle of the batting order — which needs to be filled this offseason if the organization wants to give itself a real shot at contending.

Munetaka Murakami could be the man tasked with doing that, according to Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly.

“The Red Sox may very well try to bring back Kyle Schwarber in free agency, but if that doesn’t work Murakami could push Alex Cora’s squad over the top to being a World Series contender,” Kelly wrote.

The Red Sox were listed as the third best landing spot for Murakami — coming in just behind the New York Mets (No. 1) and New York Yankees (No. 2).

SNY’s Anthony McCarron recently predicted the slugger will end up in Boston.

Murakami, for the uninitiated, is one of the most prolific power hitters in the entire sport, having set the single-season home run record (56) in Nippon Professional Baseball in 2022 — totaling 246 home runs in his career while slashing .270/.394/.550 across eight seasons from 2018-2025.
