Pat Freiermuth start or sit: Week 8 fantasy football advice

Week 8 of the 2025 NFL season rolls on and the action will continue with a Sunday night showdown featuring the Green Bay Packers visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.

The Steelers are coming off a mini-bye after having their three-game win streak snapped in a 33-31 loss to the Bengals last Thursday night. Tight end Pat Freiermuth had his first true noteworthy performance of the season in the loss and we’ll see if he can carry that momentum into this primetime showdown.

Below, we’ll go over Freiermuth’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 8.

Fantasy Football analysis: Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth

Freiermuth was the Steelers’ top pass-catcher in last Thursday’s loss to the Bengals, coming away with five receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns. The second trip to the end-zone was a 68-yarder that gave the Steelers a brief lead late in the fourth quarter.

Prior to last Thursday, Freiermuth had mostly been sharing the workload with Jonnu Smith and that depressed his fantasy value with his previous season high being 31 yards against the Seahawks in Week 2. In fact, the veteran just flat out hasn’t been targeted that much with just a 10.24% target share for this season. We’ll find out if last week was an anomaly or the beginning of a mid-season surge for the fifth-year player.

Sit. Unless you’re in a deeper league and pressed for a tight end this week, I’d recommend to keep him on the bench. I need to see more consistent targets before I’d be comfortable handing him the keys with a start.
