Bahamas bust: weapons, ammunition and cash seized from boat, 8 Americans arrested

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Eight Americans were arrested in the Bahamas for possession of weapons, ammunition, and holding a “considerable sum of undeclared cash” on Tuesday.
In a news presser, the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) said officers from the Alice Town Police Station, alongside the Bahamas Customs Department, searched a ship docked at a port on Bimini.
The officers were moving after receiving intelligence, according to the RBPF, but the specifics of what information was obtained are not public.
On the boat, officers found three “high-powered weapons” and 11 other firearms, as well as large sums of undeclared cash and ammunition. The weapons, ammunition and money were confiscated by law enforcement.
Ten occupants aboard the boat, consisting of eight Americans, one South African and one Guyanese person, were taken into custody according to the RBPF. The age ranges of those arrested were between 21 to 62 years old.
The identities of the arrested individuals remain unknown. Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Bimini is a chain of islands located in the westernmost part of the Bahamas. It is the country’s closest point to the mainland United States.
