Joji Drops “Past Won’t Leave My Bed”

Rating: 4 out of 5.
“Past Won’t Leave My Bed” is haunting, achy, and beautiful in that uniquely Joji way.
He has this rare ability to make heartbreak sound cinematic, and this track is no exception. Every lyric feels weighted, drenched in emotion and quiet pain. The instrumentation is stripped but powerful—a simple drumbeat paired with moody, echoing guitars that give it that nostalgic 80s ballad feel. It’s about trying to move forward while still being trapped in the echoes of what used to be. You can feel the exhaustion in his delivery, that ache of wanting to heal but not quite being able to.
Alongside this release came two companion tracks: “If It Only Gets Better,” an ethereal, slightly more hopeful interlude that feels like an emotional exhale, and “PIXELATED KISSES,” a darker, electronic-tinged pop song that digs into the questions left behind. Together, the trio paints a picture of heartbreak, reflection, and fragile acceptance.
It’s vulnerable, honest, and deeply human—Joji at his most raw.
