Michigan State hockey vs. Penn State live updates, score: Highlights

No. 1 Michigan State hockey completed the impressive two-game series sweep of No. 3 Penn State on Saturday night.
Michigan State dominated the game from the start to the end of the game, earning an impressive 5-0 win over the Nittany Lions. With the win, Michigan State improves to 7-1-0 on the year and extended its winning streak to seven games. The Spartans picked up an overtime win over Penn State on Friday so they’ll take five of six points in Big Ten play this weekend.

Michigan State proves why they are the No. 1 team in the nation at the moment with a dominant win over Penn State. The Spartans picked up their second sweep of a top three ranked team, and continue to show why they are a true contender to win the national championship this year.
Augustine finishes the game with 35 saves and earns his third shutout of the season already this year.
Next up for the Spartans is a two-game road trip to Notre Dame next week.
Spartans add to their lead on a goal from Anthony Romani. It’s all Spartans tonight at Munn.
Stramel gets an empty net goal to ice this one. This is Stramel’s second goal of the game. Michigan State is going to pick up an impressive sweep of Penn State.
Tempers have finally hit a boiling point. A few different fights have broken out and a number of penalties have been called on both teams. Both penalty boxes are full right now.
Spartans continue to stave off any Penn State chances and lead 3-0 with less than 10 minutes to go in this game.
Spartans goalie Trey Augustine makes a few big saves to keep Michigan State up three. Penn State has picked up the pace but its now a race against the clock for the Nittany Lions.

Michigan State adds to its lead in the second period and heads into the third in command of this game. The Spartans dominated the pace of the game in the second and now lead in the shots category by the total of 32-24.
Michigan State has 20 more minutes to close out another monster sweep.
Both teams had shorten power play opportunities with extended four-on-four time. Spartans still lead by three late in the second.

Michigan State goal! Colin Ralph rips one in from the point and the Spartans are now up 3-0 in the second period.
Media timeout at Munn. Michigan State’s shot advantage is now up to 26-13.
The Spartans have continued their pressure on the Nittany Lions, with a few more solid scoring chances. But goalie Josh Flemming is keeping Penn State in the game. The next goal will be massive for both teams.

Michigan State for the most part dominated the opening period, scoring early and late in the frame to carry a 2-0 lead into the first break.
Michigan State leads in the shots battle with a 15-11 advantage.
Martone’s goal late in the period was well-deserved after the Spartans came up short on numerous opportunities in the first period. It would have almost felt disappointing to be up only one goal with how well they played.
Spartans goal! Stramel finds Martone for a one-timer, backdoor goal late in the first period. Ryker Lee also had an assist on the goal from Martone. Michigan State now leads 2-0.
The Spartans have controlled the flow of this game, but still only a one-goal game as we approach the first intermission.
The Spartans kill off another Penn State power play. Back to full strength on both sides.
Michigan State gets a number of great chances on the power play but was unable to pop any through to double their lead. This game is also starting to get chippy already. Lots of fireworks and fun hockey early into this one.
Michigan State is able to successfully kill Penn State’s first power play attempt of the game to keep them ahead 1-0 early in the first period.
The Spartans are now heading to the power play themselves for two minutes.
