Rain Could Dampen Halloween Weather For Trick-Or-Treaters In Chicagoland

Trick-or-treaters could stay dry while out gathering candy on Friday afternoon and evening, despite chances for rain and showers. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will be in the low 50s at 4 p.m., and in the mid-40s by 8 p.m. Friday.

“A few showers are possible [Friday] afternoon and evening, although most will stay dry,” the weather service said.

Rain chances will continue into Saturday, when there is a 40 to 50 percent chance of rain, mainly for north of Interstate 80, according to the weather service. High temps will stay in the 50s all weekend, with a high of 52 on Saturday and a high of 55 on Sunday.

Saturday marks the first day of November, a month when average temperatures drop quite a bit for the Chicago area. It’s also the month when we typically see the first “measurable” snowfall in Chicago, according to the weather service.

However, large snowfalls aren’t typical in November in Chicago. The average snowfall measurement for November is 1.8 inches. According to weather service data, 1940 was the snowiest November on record, with 14.8 inches of snow.

More recently, November 2018 had 12.7 inches of snow, November 2019 had 3.7 inches of snow and November 2022 had 1.1 inches of snow, according to the weather service.

Average temperatures drop by about 10 degrees from the first of November to the 30th of November. According to the weather service, 47.6 degrees is the average temp for Nov. 1, while 35.2 degrees is the average temperature for Nov. 30.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of showers or sprinkles before 7 p.m., then a slight chance of showers after 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. West wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

SATURDAY: A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 50. West wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph.

SATURDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers before 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Light and variable wind, becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

SUNDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.
