Club Statement | Colin Addison

Newport County AFC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former manager Colin Addison at the age of 85.

Colin enjoyed two memorable spells in charge of Newport, first guiding the club through the famous ‘Great Escape’ of the 1976–77 season before returning between 1982 and 1985, where he led County to their highest post-war league finish in the 1982–83 campaign.

A man widely respected across the game, Colin’s contribution to Newport County and the wider football community will never be forgotten. He remained a familiar face at Rodney Parade for many years, continuing to support the club he helped shape both on and off the pitch.

Before moving into management, Colin enjoyed a distinguished playing career, making over 400 appearances, the majority of which came for Nottingham Forest, before going on to achieve success in coaching and management roles both in the UK and abroad.

Everyone at Newport County AFC sends their deepest condolences to Colin’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
