The business end of the MLS season is finally upon us, and it all kicks off this weekend as Inter Miamiwelcomes Nashville SC for the opening clash of their Best-of-Three playoff showdown on Saturday.

Having already lifted the Supporters’ Shield last year, Inter Miami now turns its focus toward the biggest prize of all — the MLS Cup. With home advantage secured after finishing third in the regular-season standings, confidence is sky-high in the Herons’ camp as they look to make a deep postseason run. Expectations couldn’t be higher either, with players and fans alike demanding nothing short of silverware when the curtain falls on December 6.

Nashville SC, meanwhile, enters the postseason riding a wave of quiet optimism. Under BJ Callaghan’s leadership, the Coyotes have transformed from last season’s 13th-place finish to a commendable sixth this term, a sign of genuine progress. They already have one trophy in the bag after winning the US Open Cup, but the hunger for more glory remains strong within the squad.

Inter Miami CF team news

In terms of team news, Inter Miami will once again be without long-term absentees Allen Obando and David Ruiz (both hamstring issues), while young midfielder Santi Morales remains a major doubt due to a knee concern.

Javier Mascherano handed Telasco Segovia limited minutes in their previous outing, but the Venezuelan made the most of his 27-minute cameo, finding the net and giving his coach something to ponder ahead of this crucial matchup.

Of course, all eyes will inevitably fall on Lionel Messi, who continues to be the heartbeat of Miami’s attack. The captain has been in blistering form, racking up 29 goals in just 28 regular-season games, including a hat trick against Nashville earlier this year. Even if the visitors somehow manage to contain the Argentine wizard, the presence of Luis Suárez offers no respite, as the veteran striker remains more than capable of punishing any defensive lapse.

Nashville SC team news

For Nashville SC, the injury list isn’t much kinder. Wyatt Meyer (foot) and Julian Gaines (thigh) remain sidelined long-term, while Ahmed Qasem continues to nurse an ankle injury that kept him out of last weekend’s fixture. Jonny Perez has been missing since mid-September with a thigh issue and is unlikely to feature here.

Still, the Coyotes possess attacking firepower of their own. Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar have been the driving forces behind their success this season, the Englishman bagging 24 goals during the regular campaign, while Mukhtar contributed an impressive 16 goals and 11 assists.
