While Survivor Series is one of WWE’s most important PLEs, there is one event that trumps it in significance this year: John Cena’s last match on the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
It will be one of the most important nights in pro wrestling all year and is tracking to be handled more like a major PLE than a one-off prime-time special. As such, who Cena faces in that match will be vital to the execution of the event and the conclusion of his legacy as an in-ring performer.
With so much hype and effort going into making that match as high-profile as it can be, WWE will spend the road to Survivor Series establishing who that opponent will be.
Whether it is through a tournament, a major return, a confrontation in one of Cena’s final appearances, or a random match announcement not unlike his showdown with AJ Styles at Crown Jewel, WWE will have The Unseen 17’s challenger in place before November 29.
