Broncos host 41-year-old tight end on free agent visit

The Denver Broncos are leaving no stone unturned as they search for a blocking tight end.
After losing Nate Adkins to a knee injury, the Broncos put in claims for tight ends Brendan Bates and Ben Sims on Monday, but both players were awarded to teams higher in the NFL’s waiver wire order. Denver then brought in a 41-year-old veteran for a visit on Tuesday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.
Marcedes Lewis visited the team’s facility and could be a potential candidate to join the practice squad after the Broncos opened up a spot on Tuesday. Lewis (6-6, 267 pounds) is a former first-round pick and Pro Bowler who had a stretch as one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL.
Lewis played in all 17 games with the Chicago Bears in each of the last two seasons, but he has remained a free agent since the spring. If he signs with Denver, 2025 will mark Lewis’ 20th season in the NFL. He has 437 career catches for 5,115 yards and 40 touchdowns on his resume.
