Mariners fans pack T-Mobile Park to share playoff experience despite team’s away game

Some may refer to them as “the best fans in baseball.”

Hundreds of faithful Mariners fans packed T-Mobile Park for a Game 6 watch party on Sunday night, while the team played on the road.

“We want to be with all the fans. That’s the whole point, to be with others, celebrating the big moments,” Tim Hermann told KOMO News.

While the team itself was thousands of miles away in Toronto, fans said sharing this playoff run with other people is what makes it so special.

“Be with the energy, be with the crowds,” Chris Lopez continued, “and at the same time, be here with all the goodies and the gear, so you can just go totally crazy.”

Hundreds of Mariners fans felt the highs and lows of Game 6 together at T-Mobile Park.

“I mean, this is crazy,” said Chloe Lind. “Having this many people come out for a game that’s not even live? It’s amazing and, we love watching with other fans.”

Longtime members of the Mariners’ fanbase say it knows no limits.

“It’s just dedicated people, right, we’re all out here just supporting them,” Hermann explained.

With some fans even traveling across state lines just to watch Sunday’s game at the ballpark in Seattle.

“We drove up all the way from Baja California, Mexico to be here for this, to be around fellow Mariners fans, because if we were back in Baja, in a small town called Loretto, it would just be the two of us going ‘Yay Mariners!'” Robert Foist said while waiting in line for the watch party.

The Mariners falling 6-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays, and forcing a Game 7, wasn’t the outcome fans were looking for.

“We thought we were going to come back in the 7th, and we were just hoping things would turn around,” said Scott Porterfield after the game.

But all hope isn’t lost with at least one more game of October baseball still to be played.

“We’re going to come here and watch the game,” said Calvin Schild. “I think it’s going to be an epic weekend.”

T-Mobile Park is hosting another watch party for Game 7 on Monday evening. Gates will open to fans at 4 p.m., and first pitch is at 5:08 p.m.
