Broncos’ Sean Payton Gives Coaching Job to Former Saints Star

Sitting at 7-2 on the year, the Denver Broncos appear destined to be a true contender in the AFC. If they needed any more help, they got just that on Thursday when it was announced that one of the most versatile players in NFL history will be joining Sean Payton’s coaching staff in Denver.
Payton has coached some great players over the course of his 21-year NFL coaching career. Perhaps the most dynamic player he has ever coached is former New Orleans Saints star running back and return man Darren Sproles.
Over the course of his 14-year NFL career, Sproles served as a true jack of all trades, making an impact as a rusher, a receiving threat, and as a returner.
All of his skills were quite valuable for Sean Payton’s offense during their time together in New Orleans. They still seem to be enticing for Payton nowadays as well.

During an appearance on the “Up & Adams Show”, Sproles revealed that he plans on accepting an offer he got from his former coach to be a coaching intern with the Broncos.
“Sean has called me about it, and I think I am going to take him up on it,” said Sproles, discussing joining the Broncos coaching staff. “I feel like my next calling is to coach. With me starting high school coaching a little bit, I am loving it. I feel like that is my next calling.”

As for what entices Sproles about the new position, the three-time Pro Bowler explained that he loves to “day-to-day grind” that comes along with life in the NFL.
“I just love the day-to-day grind of preparation,” added Sproles. “That’s what I feel like I’m missing.”
Someone with as much NFL experience as Sproles certainly seems like the perfect coaching candidate, whether it be coaching running backs on offense or helping out in the return game on special teams.
The Broncos’ rushing attack has already been impressive this season, averaging the seventh-most rushing yards per game on the year. So it will certainly be interesting to see whether Sproles can further help matters for the Broncos’ offense moving forward when he does officially start in his planned new role in Denver.
