Robert Pattinson has officially confirmed his role in Dune 3, and it seems the experience left him scorched, quite literally! During an interview with IndieWire for his recent film, Die My Love, Pattinson opened up about working on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three.
When I was doing “Dune” it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn’t question anything. And it was so relaxing, like my brain actually wasn’t operating, I did not have a single functioning brain cell. I was just listening to Denis: “Whatever you want!”
After Twilight, Pattinson escaped type-casting and built a reputation for diving into physically demanding roles. Now that we know he’s joined the star-studded cast of Dune, it will be interesting to see what he does alongside new-age talent like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh.

Even though his exact role wasn’t officially confirmed, multiple reports claimed that he would play a villain. But from the IndieWire conversation, Pattinson threw us a bone, and now we know that he’ll indeed appear as an antagonist.
Many fans and critics believe he’ll portray Scytale, the shapeshifting Face Dancer who’s the main big bad of Dune Messiah. In the novel, he is the brains behind a plan to overthrow Paul Atreides and is easily one of the most complex and menacing figures in the saga.

Pattinson has delivered several unorthodox performances so far and created a name for himself in the cinephile space, and though we’d love to see him in Dune 3, there’s a creative hurdle!
Due to Scytale’s shapeshifting nature, he rarely appears in his true form, which could limit the actor’s actual screen time, unless Denis Villenue decides to alter the material (though that would defeat the purpose of being Scytale).
Though Pattinson playing Scytale is the most prevalent theory, there are a few more characters in the mix that he could portray. And though Pattinson has responded positively to the villain part, his exact role remains open to interpretation.

The internet is buzzing with all kinds of alternate theories, and who else could Robert Pattinson play if not Scytale? One of the leading contenders is Edric, a Spacing Guild Navigator who conspires against Paul Atreides.
Navigators are the ones who travel through space, and they have a tank filled with spice gas. And given that Pattinson described his experience to be physically exhausting, saying, “it was so hot in the desert,” it could hint at him playing Edric.
