Elizabeth Olsen Wants to Play Scarlet Witch Opposite This MCU Star, And This Needs to Happen

One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most beloved characters could finally return after a three-year absence. Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch rapidly climbed the ranks of most popular MCU characters during the Multiverse Saga, winning over audiences with her emotional journey in the Disney+ series WandaVision. Unfortunately, Wanda Maximoff met an untimely end after a vicious villainous turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, this doesn’t have to be the end for Olsen’s character.
Since her supposed death in Multiverse of Madness, fans have been clamoring for the Scarlet Witch’s return to the MCU. In that time, Olsen has regularly claimed that she would be willing to reprise her iconic character under the right circumstances, though she has never revealed whether there have been conversations with Marvel to make it happen. In a recent interview, the actress suggested one team-up that she would love to make happen in the MCU–and it will only make audiences hope for the Scarlet Witch’s return even more.

Elizabeth Olsen recently made an appearance at Spacecon San Antonio, where she addressed the possibility of returning to the MCU as Scarlet Witch in future projects. While Olsen didn’t offer any insights into whether she would appear in upcoming films like Avengres: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, she did open up about her desire to work alongside a former co-star who recently joined the franchise. The Wanda Maximoff actress revealed that she would love to return to Marvel if it meant that she would get to work with Aubrey Plaza, who made her MCU debut in last year’s Agatha All Along as Rio Vidal, a.k.a. Lady Death. Olsen and Plaza previously worked together on the 2017 black comedy Ingrid Goes West and have maintained a friendship ever since. If Olsen were to get her way, the two would share the screen again, this time as their respective super-powered characters, each of whom has a penchant for getting what she wants in the bloodiest way possible.
Aubrey Plaza’s debut as Lady Death in Agatha All Along opened up the door for plenty of new supernatural stories in the MCU. The character has long been associated with the iconic villain Thanos, who kills half the universe to win her affections. While the MCU did away with Lady Death’s Thanos connection, there are still plenty of opportunities for her character to return in upcoming projects. With the MCU exploring more supernatural stories moving forward, Lady Death could factor into upcoming films like Blade or even a series like Moon Knight. The Scarlet Witch would similarly fit well with a darker MCU project, setting the stage for Elizabeth Olsen and Aubrey Plaza to finally reunite on screen after their brilliant partnership in Ingrid Goes West.
A Scarlet Witch and Lady Death Team-Up Would Be Epic

Most MCU fans would be delighted to see Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch share the screen with Aubrey Plaza’s Lady Death. Not only do the two actresses have terrific chemistry, but their characters would be extremely compelling to see interact. Both Scarlet Witch and Lady Death are extremely dangerous and used to getting their own way, which could result in a rivalry between the two women. Wanda has always been one of the most powerful MCU characters, but Lady Death’s abilities supersede even those of the Scarlet Witch. With otherworldly powers that encompass the very essence of life and death, Aubrey Plaza’s character might be one of the few people in the MCU who could beat Wanda in a fight. This would be amazing to see play out onscreen, making for one of the biggest, most cosmic battles in the history of the MCU. It would also give both Wanda and Rio a chance to show what they are truly capable of, as both characters traditionally hold back in a fight.
As epic as a showdown between these two cosmic characters would be, fans would also love to see a team-up between Lady Death and Scarlet Witch. Lady Death could even factor into Wanda’s long-awaited return. If Wanda really did die at the end of Multiverse of Madness, one of the few characters who could restore her to the land of the living would be Death herself. If Rio had some business that she needed taken care of in the mortal world, she could make a Mephisto-esque deal with the all-powerful Scarlet Witch that would restore her life and allow her to return to the MCU full-time. This would create an intriguing dynamic between the two sorceresses, as Wanda becomes indebted to the very concept of death, for better or for worse. There are endless exciting possibilites that could bring the MCU’s Scarlet Witch and Lady Death together, but it remains to be seen whether Marvel can really make it happen.
Will the Scarlet Witch Ever Return to the MCU?

As exciting as the prospect for a team-up between the Scarlet Witch and Lady Death might be, there is still a long way to go before it can become a reality. Currently, it is unclear if Elizabeth Olsen will ever return to the MCU. With the Multiverse Saga winding down, the character of Scarlet Witch might be rebooted in the next era of the MCU, allowing for a version of the character who is more closely connected with the X-Men. However, it would be a missed opportunity for Marvel Studios not to bring back Elizabeth Olsen’s version of the character at least one more time before thinking about rebooting her. Wanda still needs to redeem herself after her villainous downfall in Multiverse of Madness. This could involve her return in the upcoming Vision Quest series, which serves as a loose sequel to Wanda’s own show, WandaVision. The 2026 Disney+ series could feature the long-awaited reunion between Wanda Maximoff and the Vision, giving two of the unluckiest Avengers the happy ending they always deserved. This would fundamentally alter the way that Wanda is perceived by general audiences, who may still remember her as a villain. It is important for the MCU to remind the world that, at her core, Wanda was as heroic as the rest of the Avengers–she just lost her way after a series of truamatic events. VisionQuest could be the best opportunity for her character’s return, though it doesn’t see as though there is much room to cram a Leady Death team-up into the upcoming series.
Alternatively, there remains a slim chance that Scarlet Witch could return in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to hit theaters in December of 2026. The film is bringing back numerous iconic Marvel characters, including several mutants from Fox’s X-Men franchise. Many fans have long wished to see Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch interact with Ian McKellan’s Magneto. The two characters are revealed to be father and daughter in the comics, giving them a unique relationship that has never been portrayed in live-action before. Doomsday is most likely the last chance for Marvel to bring this element of the characters to life, even if the film won’t have time to explore all the intricacies of their relationship. Still, with so many characters already involved in the upcoming Multiverse Saga finale, it seems less likely by the day that Olsen will return as Wanda Maximoff therein. If she does not return in Doomsday or Secret Wars, it seems safe to say that audiences have seen the last of the Scarlet WItch, or at least Elizabeth Olsen’s version of the character.
As exciting as it would be to see Scarlet Witch team up with characters like Lady Death or Magneto, the MCU is rapidly running out of time to make these partnerships a reality. The Multiverse Saga is rapidly coming to a close and, with it, any opportunity to bring back Elizabeth Olsen’s iconic Avenger.
