A representative of Russian businessman Roman Abramovich denied information about the possible purchase of the Turkish football club ‘Galatasaray’. He stated that Abramovich does not plan to invest in any football club.
‘This information is not true. Mr. Abramovich is not buying or investing in any football club,’ emphasized the oligarch’s representative.
Earlier, news appeared in the media about Abramovich’s intentions to purchase ‘Galatasaray’. According to the Turkish newspaper Sözcü, he even bought a mansion in Istanbul and plans to move to Turkey.
Status of the club
It is worth noting that ‘Galatasaray’ is a public joint-stock company, the controlling share of which belongs to the club’s foundation, not to private individuals. Therefore, the club is temporarily not subject to corporate ownership according to current legislation.
Let us remind you that previously Roman Abramovich owned the football club ‘Chelsea’, which achieved significant success in England. Due to sanctions, his assets in Britain were frozen, and the club was sold to new investors in 2022.
