Who else would you celebrate Halloween weekend with, if not the gays?

That certainly seemed to be the position of the Zohran Mamdani campaign for New York City mayor. Mamdani hit up two LGBTQ+ hotspots over the weekend as part of an eleventh-hour campaign bar crawl. The politician, who is a noted LGBTQ+ ally with proposed policies to back that up, is in the final days of his run.

“Papi Juice, how we doing?” he said as he got on the mic at the roving party Papi Juice. The recurring event was first launched in 2013 and is put on by a collective that includes DJ Oscar Nunez, DJ Adam Rhodes and illustrator Mohammed Fayaz. It was launched as a space intentionally curated for queer and trans people of color and has travelled both nationally as well as internationally putting on events.
