DENVER SUFFERS DEFEAT AFTER DRAMA: Jokić Falls One Assist Short of Making NBA History, Here’s the Record He Missed!

Serbian center Nikola Jokić started the new season with four consecutive triple-doubles, and against Portland, he was one assist short of becoming the first player in NBA history with five triple-doubles to start a season.
Russell Westbrook and Oscar Robertson each had four consecutive triple-doubles at the start of a season, but never five, meaning the Serbian national team player had a chance to make history once again and stand alone at the top in this category.
He fell just short as he finished the game with 21 points (5/7 two-pointers, 2/3 three-pointers, 5/7 free throws), 14 rebounds, and 9 assists in Denver’s painful 107-109 loss on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Jokić missed a potential game-tying shot in the final second, but controversial and debatable refereeing decisions ultimately cost the Nuggets. Aaron Gordon committed a foul in the closing moments, and much happened under Portland’s basket, which, despite everything, secured the victory.
