Some parts of the UK may be hit with snow this weekend, according to Met Office weather maps.

Following reports last week of a “four-inch burst” of snow hitting the UK, the Met Office has said that it does not expect a “significant cold spell” for the end of the month.

However, in a blog post on Thursday (October 16) forecasters suggested that isolated wintry showers are “always possible” towards the end of October, adding these spells are especially likely over high ground in Scotland.

Following this, current Met Office weather maps are now forecasting spells of snow and hail for parts of northern Scotland during the late hours of Friday night, into the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to Met Office weather maps, scattered spells of snowfall are now expected across northern parts of Scotland from around 10 pm on Friday night, with these continuing into the early hours of Saturday morning.

But while some snowfall may be seen in northern Scotland over the weekend, anyone hoping for flurries across the rest of the UK may be left disappointed.

The Met Office has refuted reports of a “huge barrage” of snow hitting the UK, instead suggesting most of the country will see rain and wind with temperatures “above the seasonal norm”.

While parts of Scotland are expected to see flurries of snow and hail, the rest of the UK should remain largely dry during the early hours of Saturday.

Issuing a forecast on the weekend, the Met Office wrote: “Remaining unsettled to start the period as an area of low pressure clears into the North Sea. Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, and strong winds will likely ease through Friday as the low continues to move eastwards.

“This will leave a colder northerly flow for a time at the weekend which will be showery around the coasts but with sunny spells inland.”
