Soap viewers won’t be getting their television fix tonight as Emmerdale has been taken off the air.

The fan favourite programme won’t return to our TV, but thankfully the change will be short-lived for Virgin Media watchers.

Instead, ITV will be broadcasting the World Cup qualifier between England and Serbia in its place, on Thursday 13 November, with the match starting at 7.45pm.

People will also be able to tune in for Ireland’s qualifer match, with the Republic taking on Portugal – kick-off is also at 7.45pm.

Live coverage will start on RTE Two, with Darragh Maloney presenting all the action from both teams’ penultimate Group F match, held at Aviva Stadium.

People who watch Emmerdale on ITVX, STV Player or YouTube will also miss the soap’s early release due to the football matches.

Virgin Media has confirmed what will be taking over Emmerdale’s 7.30pm slot – and it’s Celebrity Catchphrase.

On the TV schedule, it says: “Stephen Mulhern hosts another charity edition of the game show, with Charlie Hedges, Luke Kempner and Jeremy Vine trying to say what they see as they guess well-known phrases for the chance to win a £50,000 jackpot for their chosen good causes”.

It’s expected to air for one-hour and be followed by Call the Cleaners at 8.30pm.

The TV schedule reads: “Yvonne and Angela help an artist whose nine-bedroom house in Stafford is overrun with clutter, and Maxine and Jasmine go to Clacton to a maisonette that is covered in years’ worth of animal fur from their 16 pets, and have three days to get it back into shape”.

Emmerdale will be back on our screens tomorrow night, Friday 14 November, in its normal slot.

It’s lined up to be a dramatic episode as Kev is sent spiralling, while Paddy is said to be troubled. Elsewhere, Eve thinks she has spotted her grandfather.

It will be followed by a double episode of Coronation Street from 8pm to 9pm.

On the TV schedule, it says: “Will returns home with something to get off his chest, Kevin refuses to help Tyrone at the garage, Brody’s mis-timed outburst jeopardises Joanie’s homecoming, and Gary seeks Todd’s blessing for Theo to work with Pete again”.
