National weather forecast: Tropical low off the NT, storms in WA

Hello with your National Weather Forecast as we take a look at what we’re expecting tomorrow, Tuesday the 18th of November.
Straight to the synoptic map, and our eyes are immediately drawn to the north of the country with a developing tropical low off the coast of the Top End. It is strengthening over the Timor and Arafura Seas, and later this week it has a high chance of becoming the Australian region’s first tropical cyclone of the season. Keep an eye on updates if you are in Darwin or the Top End.
Elsewhere across the country, a surface trough is bringing unsettled conditions to Western Australia with showers and thunderstorms extending down into the south-west of the state, making for quite muggy conditions. In the south-east, troughs and cold fronts are moving through, reinforcing cool and showery conditions across Tasmania and southern Victoria.
We’re expecting a mostly dry day across Queensland with only a slight chance of a very light afternoon shower along the south-east coast. Showers and storms are likely for far northern Cape York Peninsula. Inland temperatures are generally slightly below average, while coastal areas will be warm, reaching 35°C in Townsville. Brisbane partly cloudy with a top of 28°C and the chance of an afternoon shower, though not much rainfall is expected.
Across New South Wales, there’s a possibility of morning fog around the Northern Tablelands. A very light afternoon shower is possible about the northern coast, otherwise it will be a dry and mostly sunny day. Temperatures slightly below average in the west and warm along the coast with fresh afternoon sea breezes. Sydney sunny with 26°C. Canberra sunny also with 26°C.
In Victoria, morning fog is possible and there may be very light showers about the ranges. A surface trough approaches from the west in the afternoon, bringing increasing showers across the west and southern districts, about 1 to 5 mm. Temperatures will be mild, 23°C in Melbourne with a slight chance of an afternoon or evening shower before clearing at night. Warm in the north with 29°C in Mildura.
Tasmania will be wet in the west with a cold front and several troughs moving through. Western areas could see 20 to 40 mm of rainfall. Showers may spill into the Midlands and eastern districts, and southern parts of the state including Hobart will see showers building during the afternoon. Hobart will reach 16°C and Launceston 19°C.
South Australia will be dry and cloudy across the south to start, with a few very light coastal showers moving through the south-east during the day, though not lingering for long. Cool southerly winds will keep maximum temperatures slightly below average. Adelaide may see a morning shower with a top of 21°C. Conditions remain warm in the north of the state despite the southerlies.
In Western Australia, an unsettled day is expected. Showers and thunderstorms will form across the Gascoyne and northern Wheatbelt in the morning and spread through other parts of the Wheatbelt and the Perth metro area in the afternoon. Areas north of Perth may see severe thunderstorms bringing heavy rain, large hail and damaging winds. The south of the state will be partly cloudy. Temperatures reach the mid to high 30s across the Pilbara.
Across the Northern Territory, conditions are dominated by the low pressure system near Darwin. It is bringing widespread showers, rain and thunderstorms, with heavy falls possible across western and eastern parts of the Top End. Elsewhere conditions are generally fine. Southern NT will see maximums in the low 30s and it will be hot across the Kimberley with mid to high 30s.
