Gillingham handed welcome fitness boost ahead of Barnet visit

Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth could have his captain back in the starting line-up this weekend.
Striker Seb Palmer-Houlden has also been in training after he missed last weekend’s game with a knock.

It’s given manager Garerth Ainsworth more options ahead of their home game with Barnet.
Elliott Nevitt will also be back available, missing out against Crawley last Saturday with a one-game ban after accumulating five bookings.
Commenting on his captain’s return, Ainsworth said: “Armani is definitely fit to play now, which is great.
“He’s the captain. When I came in, I wanted to look at the entire squad and ‘do I need to change the captain?’ His character is spot on. He’s a real winner first and foremost but he’s an example in training. He does it the right way.
“Armani is definitely that leader that we need sometimes in the middle of the park. He’s an engine, he drives, he rats around there and I think he’s been missed when he’s not played.
“Having Armani back, having him fully fit will be great.”
Little’s missed the last two games and hasn’t started a league match since early September because of injury issues.
Palmer-Houlden will hope to get back in action after only just getting up to speed following his own injury-hit start to the campaign.
Ainsworth said: “We’ve got a Seb back, which is brilliant as well, and one or two others I think are very close.
“I’m really pleased with where we are. One or two knocks but nothing serious.
“I’m going to make sure that we’ve got to be on full cylinders on Saturday and an early kick-off (at 12.30pm). I don’t want that catching anyone out.
“We’ll prepare right away and hopefully get three points.”

Midfielder Euan Williams and Conor Masterson aren’t expected to be fit yet.
Williams hasn’t featured this season and Masterson picked up an injury just two games into the campaign.
“We’re probably looking into December for both of those two now,” said the Gills boss.
“Big players, it would be like having new signings for me a month early. We’re really looking forward to them two getting back.
“Conor’s a real leader at the back, a real warrior of a centre-half.
“Euan’s mentoring from Bradley Dack a little bit. We see Euan in a very similar role in that attacking midfielder role.
“He’s full of energy and know the bits between his teeth. He’s had just one or two minor setbacks after his shoulder injury and it’s been a tough season for Euan.
“He got a fall on his shoulder first day (of pre-season) and it pops it out and needed surgery. It’s been a real tough year for him so far.”

Goalkeeper Glenn Morris won’t make it back this weekend, but is close. Shad Ogie is also out injured.
Ainsworth said: “Both are progressing well.
“Glenn is going to be out still for this game, so he’s not as bad as Conor and Euan, he’s not as far down the road.”
With Jake Turner performing well, Morris’ return doesn’t need to be rushed.
Ainsworth said: “Jake’s performance last week was phenomenal.
“It’s great to have two keepers competing like that and Jake at the moment is number one. He’s got to keep playing like he is because he’s a great goalkeeper.
“But having Glenn back, even in the squad, will be great. Jake would say that would be a great boost for me.
“If Jake keeps the shirt and Glenn’s on the bench, then we’re in a good place because that means things are going really well because Glenn’s a quality keeper as well.”
