David Jones confirms the closure of two key locations

David Jones has confirmed the closure of two key locations, as Australian department stores continue to struggle during challenging economic times and a radically changed retail landscape.

The retailer’s stores at Castle Towers Shopping Centre in Castle Hill and Tuggerah on the NSW Central Coast will close their doors.

“Thank you. After 34 years of serving our community, our David Jones Castle towers store will be closing on Sunday 18 January 2026,” a sign outside of the Castle Hill store reads.

”This team would like to thank all our wonderful customers for your support.

“We invite you to visit your closest stores – David Jones Parramatta, Hornsby or Chatswood Chase.

“Please continue to shop your favourite brands online at davidjones.com.au via the David Jones app.”

Myer, also located in Castle Towers at Castle Hill, will remain open, according to Castle Towers management.

A spokesperson for Castle Towers told nine.com.au they have been working with David Jones “for some time” to prepare for the retailer’s exit from the centre in January 2026.

“We acknowledge our long partnership and are committed to supporting a smooth transition for retailers, staff and customers,” they continued.

“The planned departure of David Jones allows us to progress some very exciting plans for Castle Towers, including the introduction of new brands and stores.

“This enables reinvestment into new, high-performing retail concepts and fresh customer experiences, and we look forward to sharing updates in the new year.

“These plans will build on last month’s opening of the new-to-market Designer Precinct, which introduced brands including Aje, Kivari, Oroton, PE Nation, Tommy Hilfiger and Polo Ralph Lauren, along with refreshed concepts from R.M.Williams and Camilla.”

Rumours of a new Zara store in Castle Towers remain unconfirmed.

There are also rumours of an expansion in the shopping centre’s food offerings, including reports of a Harris Farm store in the works.

David Jones’ Tuggerah store will also close its doors in the New Year.
