He should come and test himself — Yakubu challenges Osimhen to join Premier League

Super Eagles legend Yakubu Aiyegbeni told Victor Osimhen to come and test himself in the Premier League.

Retired Nigerian national team striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has urged his compatriot Victor Osimhen to consider a move to the Premier League.

The former Everton striker stated that the English top flight was the most competitive division in the world, and he argued that a striker of Osimhen’s acclaim needed to play in England to test himself amongst the best.

What Aiyegbeni said

Osimhen currently plies his trade in Turkey, and if he stays the full length of his contract, he will remain in the Super Lig for four more years, until he turns 30.

A move to the Premier League was Osimhen’s dream; however, suitors, at the wages he was demanding, were not forthcoming. He joined Galatasaray on loan last season and signed permanently last summer after falling in love with the club. However, many, including Yakubu through his recent interview, believe a player of Osimhen’s talent is wasting his prime playing in Turkey.

Asked in a recent interview with Sportcast if he thinks Osimhen should move to England, Yakubu said, “It depends on him. I played in the Premier League for more than six, seven years. It is one of the best leagues in the world.”

“When you go to Spain, you have Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid – three or four clubs in which their football is really good, don’t get me wrong – but the Premier League is one of the best.

“One of the best in the world, where players from Spain, they want to come over to play, and for him, he’s been scoring goals and he should come to the Premier League to test himself as well. Everyone would love to see him there; he should come there and give it a go. Why not?

“He can score goals; he is scoring goals in Fenerbahce [Galatasaray]. We know he is in Turkey, but come to the Premier League and let’s see what he can do. He can fit into any team, any of the big teams.

“It is just for him to make the decision if he wants to come to play or if he wants to reduce his wages; it depends on him. He’s the one to make the decision. For me, I would love to see him in the Premier League.”
