Flood warnings remain in force after heavy rain

Flood warnings remain in force on both the Derwent and the Ouse.

Levels on the River Ouse in York remain high and are expected to stay elevated throughout Tuesday (09 December), as rainfall associated with Storm Bram in the upper catchments moves downstream.

Locations most affected will include properties on King’s Staith and riverside areas from Lendal Bridge to Millennium Bridge.

The Foss Barrier is operating and flood gates in have been closed. 

On the River Derwent rising river levels as a result of rainfall caused by Storm Bram are expected to cause flooding today. Locations most affected will be Buttercrambe Mill at Buttercrambe Bridge.

Footpaths and low-lying land and property is also affected in Stamford Bridge, including the Weir Caravan Park. Levels remain high and are expected to rise further following rainfall associated with Storm Bram. 

Meanwhile North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue says: “There’s a lot of standing water on the roads today. Please take extra care if you’re driving and drive to the conditions

“Never drive through deep flood water. Don’t ignore road closed signs, they’re there for your safety.”
