The Rams are intent on signing Puka Nacua to a massive contract extension over the upcoming offseason

The Los Angeles Rams have emerged as perhaps the team to beat in the 2025 NFL season. Entering Week 15, the Rams are the No. 1 seed in the NFC, and if they control their destiny over the final four games of the campaign. Much of Los Angeles’ success is due to their lethal offensive attack, which has taken its game to another level this year.

Perhaps the most important piece of the team’s success on that side of the ball is do-it-all wide receiver Puka Nacua, who has quickly emerged as one of the top pass catchers in the league. While Nacua is focused on continuing to put up monster numbers for Los Angeles, he appears to be set for a major contract extension over the offseason, and it’s one that his team is reportedly more than willing to give him.

Nacua has had one of the more stunning rises in recent NFL memory early on in his career with the Rams. A fifth-round pick in the 2023 draft, Nacua immediately racked up 105 receptions for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie, earning him Pro Bowl and All-Pro Second Team honors. Injuries limited Nacua in 2024, but he’s returned in a big way in 2025.

In 12 games, Nacua is leading the NFL with 93 receptions, which have gone for 1,186 yards and six touchdowns. With Davante Adams working behind him as a No. 2 option, and Kyren Williams leading the way on the ground, L.A. has been unstoppable at times this season. Much of that is due to the attention Nacua draws, and even then, defenses simply cannot stop him.

After the 2025 campaign wraps up, Nacua will be entering the final year of his rookie contract, meaning he is up for an extension over the upcoming offseason. Considering the rate at which Nacua has produced to begin his career, he’s going to get paid, and it sounds like the Rams have no qualms about backing up the Brinks truck for their superstar wide receiver, as they have made it a big priority to extend Nacua over the offseason.

“My understanding is this is a big-time priority for the Rams, to lock him up to a big-money deal,” Ian Rapoport said on “NFL GameDay.”

Nacua’s rise from an unheralded Day 3 pick to perhaps the top wide receiver in the NFL is nothing short of astonishing, and he appears set to cash in big time. Ja’Marr Chase’s four-year, $161 million contract is the largest deal for a wide receiver in NFL history, but it seems like only a matter of time until Nacua shatters that figure.

First, the team needs to make it through the remainder of the 2025 campaign, as they have serious aspirations of winning a title this season. The Rams have a daunting matchup against the Detroit Lions on their hands in Week 15, though, which could loom large as L.A. attempts to keep the Seattle Seahawks at arm’s length in the NFC West race. Kickoff for this very important contest is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
