Report: Ticketmaster to ‘increase percentage of tickets going to real fans’

Ticketmaster is to take steps to ensure a greater share of tickets for popular events go to real fans.
The plans were set out in a letter to US senators by Daniel Wall, executive vice president of corporate and regulatory affairs at parent company Live Nation.
It follows legal action against the company by the FTC and seven states in the US.
Live Nation disputed allegations the FTC made in the September lawsuit, describing any suggestion of collusion with ticket resellers to hike prices as “categorically false”.
In an attempt to “increase the percentage of tickets going to real fans,” Wall wrote that Ticketmaster will limit users and ticket brokers to only one account. This will be enforced by ID verification and AI-powered screening that will cancel accounts held by ticket touts.
Wall also said Ticketmaster will not allow ticket brokers to exceed the platform’s ticket resale limits.
Following the FTC’s accusation that inventory tool TradeDesk helps ticket scalpers, the letter confirmed it would be closed. Live Nation denied the FTC allegation but said it would shut the tool down to avoid reputational damage.
Music Week has requested further comment from Live Nation.
