Man (30s) dies after being hit by truck on Dublin’s Dame Street

A man has died after he was hit by a truck on Dame Street in Dublin city centre this morning.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after the fatal accident at around 1.45am.

Emergency services responded following a report of an accident involving a pedestrian and a truck.

A garda spokesperson said: “A male pedestrian (30s) was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has been removed to Dublin City Mortuary where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“There were no other injuries reported. The coroner has been notified.

“Garda forensic collision investigators have completed an examination of the scene and the road has been reopened.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have taken images or recorded footage of the incident to not share it on social media platforms or messaging apps, but instead to provide it to investigating gardaí.

“Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were in the area between 1.30am and 2am are asked to make this this footage available to gardaí.”

It is the second fatality on the country’s roads in the last 24 hours following a fatal incident in Donegal.

A woman in her 80s died following a single-vehicle collision on the R262 at Tullynaglaggin at about 3.50pm on Wednesday.

A man, also aged in his 80s, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 3.30pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
