Why Are Kids Saying “Six-Seven,” and Why Is It Being Banned? The Meme, Explained

Why are kids saying “six-seven”? Well, what a question.

If you’ve been anywhere near the internet or a member of Generation Alpha in the past few weeks, you’ll be all too familiar with the phrase. But what does it mean, and why is it a thing?

If you, like us, have been protecting your peace but now find yourself needing these answers as a matter of urgency so you can seem tuned-in among the younger members of your family, then look no further. Stay with us as we attempt to explain what this meme means.

Ah, 2025.

Why are kids saying “six-seven,” and what does it mean?

The phrase “six-seven” (6, 7) is a now viral internet meme and term that has been doing the rounds after having gained insane levels of popularity among Generation Alpha.

But where did it even come from?

Well, the term originated from rapper Skrilla’s song “Doot Doot (6 7),” where he repeatedly says “six-seven” in his lyrics.

Sections of the song with this sound bite quickly gained traction on TikTok after users began sharing edits of basketball player LaMelo Ball, who (would you believe it) is 6’7″ in height.

However, the original context of the song is a reference to 67th Street in Philadelphia and a nod to police codes. Since then, though, it’s fair to say that the six-seven meme has taken on a life of its own, now being littered across the internet and having even been referenced on a South Park episode.

In general, there’s no “real” meaning to six-seven, with it instead being used as a bit of a nothing term like another Gen Alpha fave, “skibidi.”

And in case you were wondering, yes, it would certainly seem that we have, in fact, reached peak brain rot.

Now very much an inside joke, though it doesn’t technically mean anything, it can be used in any and every context that you so wish. So with that, we say, go forth and six-seven.

How did it go viral?

What really put six-seven on the map, if you will, was this video of the “six-seven kid,” who was seen screeching the term at a basketball game. Please see below.

Since then, this kid has gone on to make six-seven his entire brand, and honestly, we can’t blame him.

Why has the six-seven meme been banned?

Yes, we’re actually at the point where “six-seven” as a phrase has had to be banned in certain classrooms because it’s proven so disruptive.
