FBI confirms assailant’s motive behind attack against Grand Blanc Twp. church

GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. – It has been more than a month since the tragedy at a Grand Blanc Township church that resulted in multiple deaths.
The FBI Detroit Field Office released a video on Friday, providing an update on the investigation into the attack at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The FBI revealed confirmation that the incident was, “ a targeted act of violence believed to be motivated by the assailants’ anti-religious beliefs against the Mormon religious community.”

Five people died during the incident, including the assailant, Thomas Jacob Sanford. Nine others were injured.

This tragedy not only affected the Grand Blanc community but also left a lasting impact on our nation. The FBI remains fully committed to doing all that it can to protect the citizens of Michigan and the American people.”
