Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski says he is “thinking about what is best” for himself amid uncertainty around his future in Spain.

The 37-year-old striker has one year left on his contract and the expectation at Barcelona is that he leaves the club next summer, as reported by The Athletic in September.

The La Liga club were in the market for a central striker over the summer, with Atletico Madrid’s Argentina forward Julian Alvarez a favoured target for president Joan Laporta.

However, Lewandowski — who returned from an injury layoff during the 3-1 victory over Elche on Sunday — insists he is “calm” about his future despite the uncertainty.

Speaking before the Champions League game against Club Brugge tomorrow, he told a press conference: “I feel good. Physically, I feel very good.

“I’m playing a few minutes with the team, and for me, the most important thing is how I can help my team win the match. As for my future, I’m calm. I’m thinking about what’s best for me.

“For now, I have things to work on. I only have the club and the national team on my mind. To do better and score goals. A lot can happen in life. But I’m happy and focused this season on scoring goals and winning titles.”

After 12 years in Germany, where he scored 447 goals in 562 games for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, he joined Barcelona in the summer of 2022. He has scored 105 goals in 157 games for Barcelona, winning five trophies, including two La Liga titles.

The Poland international played an integral role in their successful 2024-25 campaign, scoring 42 goals in 52 games, but injuries have limited him to just three starts this campaign.

“No one has asked me about Robert,” said manager Hansi Flick. “Robert is also good at defending, and he’s very good at clearing corners. Since I’ve been a coach, I haven’t had a more professional player than Robert Lewandowski.”
