Two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on the motorway near Gaydon tThe M40 in Warwickshire is closed northbound between J11 (Banbury) and J14 and southbound between J15 (Warwick) and J12 (Gaydon) due to a serious multi-vehicle collision which occurred at 7.44pm this evening (Tuesday).
The incident involves at least one lorry and several other vehicles. The lorry has crossed through the central reservation barrier and come to rest on the opposite carriageway.
All emergency services including Warwickshire Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene.
Due to the nature of the incident, the road is expected to remain closed into the night to allow for emergency services to work at the scene.
Warwickshire Police gave an update at just after 10.30pm which read: “Road closures remain in place on the M40 between J12 and J13 in both directions, due to a multi-vehicle collision earlier this evening.
“Two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“We are working as quickly as possible with our partners to recover vehicles and to help those stuck in traffic.
“The road is expected to remain closed into the night to allow emergency services to work at the scene.

Warwickshire Police said in a social media post at 8.30pm: “Emergency services are currently in attendance on the M40 between junctions 12-13 following a collision. Both sides of the the carriageway are currently closed, and closures are likely to be in place throughout the evening.
“Motorists are asked to please find an alternative route.”
