Tributes pour in for Vancouver Canucks’ Boeser after his dog passes away

For those who’ve had pets, you know the gut-wrenching feeling.
Vancouver Canucks star Brock Boeser announced on Friday night via Instagram that his dog, Coolie, had recently passed away.
“So blessed I got to call Coolie my first dog and best friend,” Boeser said in his Instagram post. “He was the happiest most loving dog I’ve ever known. Thought we had so much more time together.”
“Gonna miss you more than you can imagine Coo. Say hi to gpa for me.”
Coolie’s passing may have been sudden. Boeser appeared in an Instagram video for the Canucks in March 2024, alongside his two dogs, Coolie and Milo, mentioning at the time that Coolie was six years old.
Boeser adopted Coolie, who was originally named Cider, when he went down to Tampa Bay for the NHL All-Star Game in 2018.
“They had puppies at the hotel, the humane society,” Boeser told reporters back in 2018. “There was a puppy that my family really liked, and [he] stole my heart, I’m gonna be honest.”
After the news was announced, tributes for Coolie and love towards the Boeser family started to pour in on social media.

Some of the tributes that came in included replies from teammates, like Joseph LaBate, along with Troy Stecher’s wife, Emma Vincent.

Boeser was away for personal reasons earlier this week, missing two games against the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. He returned on Thursday against the Nashville Predators.
Some Canucks fans applauded the fact that the team gave him time off to grieve for his loss.
