Holding off Oscar Piastri in the closing stages, he secured a result that underlined why he is considered one of the sport’s brightest young prospects and why he was so keenly watched through developing junior series.

On a day dominated by the frontrunners’ title fight, the official vote confirmed his growing popularity as Bearman 41% beat Max Verstappen’s 14.5% and Lando Norris’ 11% as he landed the F1 Driver of the Day honours at the 2025 Mexico City GP.

His fourth place and the fans’ recognition showed a young driver quickly finding his place at the top level.

Lando Norris stars in Mexico City

At the front, Norris produced a dominant performance for McLaren, leading from start to finish to take victory and move to the top of the Formula 1 championship standings.

He controlled the race from the first corner, extending his advantage throughout as nobody else could lay a glove on the talented racer from Bristol, as he took the lead of the standings.

“What a race,” Norris told F1 TV. “I could just keep my eyes focused and forward and just focus on what I was doing.

“A pretty straightforward race for me which is just what I was after. Good start, good launch, good first lap and I could go from there.”

Norris now leads the championship with 357 points, just one ahead of team-mate Piastri, who recovered from a poor start to finish fifth.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc claimed second, Verstappen finished third, and Lewis Hamilton slipped back after a 10-second penalty for track limits.
