Zohran Mamdani is becoming the source of much conversation as he’s transforming New York City politics, and thanks to this newfound attention, many want to know about his wife too

Zohran Mamdani and his wife, Rama Duwaji, found love the most common way possible nowadays – via a dating app.
Years before they tied the knot, and prior to Zohran, 34, being a key person in state politics, he and Rama met through the popular dating app Hinge. “There is still hope in those dating apps,” Zohran told The Bulwark podcast during his campaign. As the politician has gained more media attention thanks to his campaign for NYC Mayor, interest has turned to his wife as well.
Rama, who was born in Texas to a Syrian family, is an artist and illustrator who has created a list of very personal, often politically driven artworks that are deeply committed to telling the stories of the diasporas.

This past April, the 28-year-old creative shared a piece titled “Art in times of crisis,” where she opened up about burn out, living in the “turbulent” city of New York, and her thought that “Art is inherently political in how it’s made, funded, and shared.”
Aside from the public appearances she makes with Zohran, Rama lives more privately regarding her personal life, posting only about her many illustrations and animations online. Other creations of Rama include illustrations that explore and spotlight women experiences.

In 2024, the couple secretly held an engagement ceremony in Dubai. The pair’s lavish, but low-key lavish engagement party took place on December 22 that year on the beautiful Vida Creek Harbour rooftop, enabling gorgeous views of the Burj Khalifa.
Zohran and Rama not only had an engagement, but they also signed a Nikkah, which is an Islamic religious ceremony where a couple inks a marriage contract, amid the event, the New York Post reported in May.

“Before their civil ceremony in New York City, Zohran and his wife celebrated their engagement in Dubai last year—where her family lives—with a small, joyful ceremony surrounded by their loved ones,” the Mamdani campaign said in a statement at the time.
They married one another at the New York City clerk’s office in February 2025.
Speaking to Interview Magazine about their choice of venue, Zohran said, “The outside is just so beautiful and reminiscent of a different New York City, and the inside is in many ways public goods personified.

“All of these New Yorkers getting married at the same time at different ages and at different times in their lives, it’s very beautiful,” he added.
A few months later in May, he shared some snaps from their special day on Instagram and captioned it, “Three months ago, I married the love of my life, Rama, at the City Clerk’s office. Now, right-wing trolls are trying to make this race—which should be about you—about her.

“Rama isn’t just my wife, she’s an incredible artist who deserves to be known on her own terms. You can critique my views, but not my family.”
Kara McCurdy, photographer and friend of newlyweds, also shared photos of Zohran and Rama’s wedding day earlier this year.
“I’ve known [Mamdani] was going to marry Rama for years, and I was there, at the city clerk’s office with them when it happened. The three of us took the subway from Astoria to City Hall on a rainy day a few months back, and I got to celebrate two of my favorite people officially tying the knot,” she penned on her website.
