Big-hitter Tim David has whacked 74 from 38 balls and been supported by a Marcus Stoinis half century as Australia posted a defendable 6-186 in their game-three Twenty20 against India.
David was in the zone on Sunday night in Hobart – his home ground for the Hurricanes in the Big Bash League – and clobbered five sixes and eight fours.
He came to the crease with Australia 2-14 in the third over and made India pay for dropping him on 20.
David launched two sixes from the spin of Axar Patel in the seventh over, including one straight that hit the signage on top of the Ninja Stadium roof.
He fell in the 13th over, caught on the long-off boundary off the medium pace of Shivan Dube.
Stoinis held Australia together with an important 64 from 39 balls, in an innings in which three of the top five fell for single digits.
Spinner Varun Chakravarthy (2-33) suffered some punishment from David, but took two scalps in two balls including rattling Mitch Owen’s stumps for a duck.
An inclusion after Melbourne, left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh was the pick of India’s bowlers with 3-35.
After his skipper won the toss, Singh struck twice early to remove Travis Head (6) and Josh Inglis (1).

Batting at No.7, allrounder Matthew Short finished unbeaten with 26 from 15 deliveries.
After success in Melbourne on Friday and a game-one washout, Australia can take an unassailable 2-0 series lead with victory in Hobart and two matches left.
The tourists made three changes, bringing in wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma, Singh and allrounder Washington Sundar.
Australia included Sean Abbott for fellow quick Josh Hazlewood, who is sitting out the remainder of the series to prepare for the Ashes.
Glenn Maxwell wasn’t picked and has been given slightly longer to recover from a wrist injury after joining the squad for games three to five.
