In the playoffs, baseball does things the old fashioned way.

If the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays make it to extra innings in the World Series, there won’t be a bonus runner on second base.

For as long as the game goes, the bases will be empty at the start of every inning.

It could make for a marathon game if the bullpens do their job. But it’s also the way it was meant to be, the fairest way of deciding a victor.

Why do Dodgers, Blue Jays not have a runner on 2nd base in extra innings?

This is how it works in the playoffs.

MLB implemented the bonus baserunner to get regular season games to end quicker.

But because it’s a bit of a gimmick, they avoided using it to end playoff games.

Most regular season extra-innings games end in the 10th or 11th inning because of the extra runner.

But in the postseason, games can extend much further, because there’s no initial runner on base.

The Dodgers and Blue Jays may not get an extra inning game, but if they do, it promises to be epic.

Starting pitchers might come out of the bullpen with the promise of endless baseball.

There’s no clock in this sport, and it’s a beautiful thing. They might just play forever.
