Hideo Kojima Thinks That Remakes And Sequels Will Soon Be Made by AI

In addition to creating games that have become true landmarks in the gaming industry, Hideo Kojima is also known for delivering honest statements at every event he attends. And his recent appearance at Brazil Game Show 2025 (popularly known as simply BGS 2025) was no different.

The legendary Japanese developer was in Brazil last week for the gaming event, and you may have noticed this on his social media, as he posted photos of Beco do Batman, a famous tourist attraction in São Paulo, and lots of Brazilian food and references.

As a Brazilian myself, it was lovely to see how Mr. Kojima was having fun while visiting us, but I noticed that he also worked a lot during his stay, since many interviews started popping up with some quite interesting info on.

Kojima On The Future Of Creativity And Why He Keeps Making Games

In a recent interview for Rolling Stones Brasil, the head of Kojima Productions expressed his concerns about the high number of remakes and sequels that are appearing not only in the gaming segment, but also in movies and TV shows.

“People often ask me what I think about the gaming industry releasing so many sequels, but this isn’t exclusive to games. The film industry does the same thing with remakes and reboots,” says Kojima. “Since these works are already well known, it’s easier to produce them and attract investment. From a commercial standpoint, there’s nothing wrong with that. But if the industry only does that, it will be dangerous. We need to keep creating new things”.

He went further on the subject, raising another related, yet curious concern: that artificial intelligence may begin to interfere with this type of project: “I think that, in the future, remakes and sequels will be made by AI”.

Now, in terms of how many post-credits scenes with the famous “A Hideo Kojima Game” screen we’ll still see in the future, he says that it’s actually up to us.

“[I keep creating games] because I have fans and players who want and wait for my next project. If I didn’t have my followers, I wouldn’t be here. If one day it’s no longer necessary, I’ll stop doing it. Creating games is exhausting, but I feel like I’m living a very good life and really living it. That’s my passion”.

I don’t know about you, but if it’s up to me, Kojima better have powered up that pendrive idea he recently had pretty well because we sure need more projects from him!
