Metropolitan line to remain blocked at Baker Street all week due to track fault

There won’t be any Metropolitan line trains between Baker Street and Aldgate for the rest of this week, due to a fault at Baker Street.

The problem is due to a track fault at Baker Street, which has been impacting Metropolitan line services. TfL says that stopping all Metropolitan line services at Baker Street eases pressure on the track while its engineers repair the fault.
The fault is reportedly a crack in the points, which are the complex set of junctions allowing the Met and other lines to converge at Baker Street and share the same tracks as the Circle/H&C lines.
The fault was detected on last week, but it’s understood that repairing it will require a custom casting, which is why the service has been closed for so long. In the meantime, the junction has been “plain lined” to favour the Hammersmith and City and Circle lines, which is why the Metropolitan line trains can’t get past Baker Street station.
Transport for London (TfL) says that the suspension of services is expected to remain in place until the end of Saturday 8th November, with minor delays on the rest of the line.
From Tuesday 4 November, TfL will run a revised timetable on the rest of the Metropolitan line to provide a more reliable service for customers. Trains will run at the following frequencies on certain sections of the line:
- Amersham – Two trains per hour instead of four trains per hour to Baker Street
- Chesham – Two trains per hour to Baker Street as normal
- Uxbridge – Eight trains per hour instead of 10 trains per hour to Baker Street
- Watford – Four trains per hour instead of six trains per hour, where customers can connect to other Metropolitan line services
Normal services are expected to resume on Sunday 9th November.
If you’re travelling to central London, they advise changing at Baker Street for Bakerloo, Circle and Hammersmith & City line services. Alternatively, use the Jubilee line from either Finchley Road or Baker Street.
