British Gas customers urged to cook and clean between these hours

British Gas customers are being urged to cook and clean during a two-hour window this Friday to slash energy costs in half.
The major energy supplier, which serves around 10 million UK homes, is offering its PeakSave customers half price electricity between 11.30am and 1.30pm on Friday, October 31. The PeakSave Green Flex event comes thanks to windy conditions which has resulted in more renewable energy being available. During Green Flex events, customers can enjoy half price electricity during the two-hour window and are urged to use this time to carry out energy guzzling tasks, like cooking, doing the washing, or vacuuming.
Eligible customers will receive an email from British Gas ahead of the event and can choose whether or not to opt in. The discount is available to both new and existing PeakSave customers and all savings will appear as credit on customers’ energy bills.
British Gas said: “PeakSave customers can enjoy half price electricity between 11:30am and 13:30pm, as windy conditions have resulted in more renewable energy being available.
“The Green Flex event falls on Halloween, meaning households could decide to use these half-price electricity hours to prepare for parties or binge-watch spooky films. It’s also a great time to get ahead on weekend jobs like laundry or vacuuming, all while saving on your electricity bill.”
Green Flex events come in addition to British Gas’ usual PeakSave Sunday scheme which offers new and existing customers with a smart meter half price electricity every Sunday between 11am and 4pm on any of their tariffs.
This scheme is open to all customers – no matter what tariff you’re on – and by joining you’ll get 50% cheaper electricity every Sunday between these five hours.
So if you miss the Green Flex event today, you’ll have another chance to save money on Sunday, November 2, during a five-hour window from 11am to 4pm. The Sunday events don’t require opting in as costumes will automatically be included every week after signing up to PeakSave.
British Gas tends to run two to three PeakSave Green Flex events per month, each lasting two hours, so customers can expect more opportunities to save money in November.
The supplier added: “There is no obligation to change your normal routine, although the more you can shift regular activities such as washing, cleaning or cooking, the more you could save on your energy bills, whilst helping the planet. All PeakSave customers will continue to get half-price electricity every Sunday without needing to opt in.
“PeakSave was launched to reward customers for better energy usage, supporting a greener energy supply. So far, British Gas has paid over £30 million to over 1 million customers taking part in the scheme. British Gas customers can find out more, including how to take part, here.”
