Paul O’Grady’s friend has claimed the late star is “haunting” him.

The TV star – who found fame as drag queen alter ego Lily Savage – died in 2023 at the age of 67, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrhythmia at his home in Kent.

His long-time friend Malcolm Prince, who has opened up about the star in his book Paul O’Grady – Not The Same Without You, has now shared that he believes that Paul pays him visits at his flat.

He opened up on ITV’s Lorraine on Thursday (November 6) as he talked about his close friendship with the late comedian and TV star.

“It seems really strange to talk about someone like that in the past tense – I’m sure you still find it difficult to do that,” host Lorraine Kelly noted.

Malcolm replied: “I talk about him as though he is still here. I mean, he is haunting me, Lorraine.”

“The ghost comes,” he insisted as Lorraine looked intrigued. “He does, he comes to the flat. I know he does.”

The writer then told Lorraine about one particular incident when he was interviewing actress Jodie Prenger, who was a fan of the late For The Love Of Dogs presenter, explaining that the lights suddenly flickered off.

“We were up at her home and we were talking about Gypsy, the musical, his favourite musical. He was desperate for Jodie to do it,” he said. “During that conversation, all the lights went out in her house. And she can afford the electricity, don’t worry. It was Savage. That was Savage.”

“And he’s still haunting me,” he said.

“In a good way though, in a good way?” Lorraine asked, and Malcolm responded: “In a really good way, yeah.”

Paul passed away unexpectedly in March 2023, and it was reported at the time that he had died in bed alongside his husband Andre Portasio. There was an outpouring of grief among fans, his friends and fellow celebs, with people lining the streets to pay their respects to the late star ahead of his funeral in April 2023.

Lorraine airs on ITV on weekdays from 9am
